A week is a long time in football

After the terrible disappointment of last week’s game at The Emirates it has been a great week for Spurs with two emphatic home wins against Middlesboro and Charlton. Tottenham move into the top 8 for the first time this season and finally seem to be playing like last season.

The defeat at Arsenal was particularly annoying as everything had seemed right for us before the game – they had lost their two previous matches, Henry and Gallas were out and Spurs had a full team and had been beaten in only one of their previous 14 matches. Yet it was the bad old days once again as we let Arsenal play their normal game – were we the first team to not play 5 in midfield at The Emirates?A  Of course the referee did us no favours with some ludicrously poor decisions but Martin Jol was right to say that we had been well beaten, which makes the next two victories all the more enjoyable.

A UEFA Cup game against Bucharest on Thursday at The Lane followed by two away games at City and Newcastle which will tell us a little more about the character of the team. Hopefully we will be able to build on the home form of this week and continue our march up the table.
