Another away game and another defeat, no matter that the opponents were ‘lowly’ Sheffield United (now only 3 points behind Spurs), Tottenham simply cannot win in 2007. Even with a goal after 2 minutes we were still unable to secure only our second away win of the season leading to more calls for Jol’s dismissal. These are ridiculous in my opinion as we are a much better team than before and it must be said investing heavily in young players is always a risk.

The question now is whether these players have enough character to get through this sticky patch and help turn the season around. Losing to Arsenal in the semi-final of the Carling Cup should act as a spur (sorry) to the team not, as it seems to be doing, act as some sort of mental block. The one player that could have helped was Edgar Davids who has just been sold to Ajax. Playing in his preferred position of central midfield he is inspiring his old team to a great comeback in the Dutch league with Ajax now only 3 points behind PSV after being 11 points adrift at one stage. He certainly would have added some much-needed steel in the midfield.
Luckily we do not have to play Feyenoord in the UEFA Cup this week as we have been given a bye to the last 16 but we play Fulham on Sunday in the 5th Round of the FA Cup,A  a place where we have never done well – is this finally the time the team breaks its away day blues? I hope so.

  • I agree that selling Davids was not the smartest move. He added bite and experience to the team. Having said that surely Tottenham can overcome their London rivals Fulham!
