The word ‘invader’ has a negative meaning as it suggests that someone is going somewhere that they are not supposed to.

It was rather strange that so many people got onto the pitch with all the security in the stadium and although nothing serious happened this time these pitch invasions are rather serious. Not only do they hold up the play but players could easily be hurt by these types of invasions.

In the Netherlands v France game, the Dutch had a goal disallowed(ruled out) because one of their players was offside as he was impeding the French goalkeeper. He didn't touch the ball but the referee felt he made it difficult for the keeper to stop the shot; he had prevented the keeper from making a save so the keeper was impeded.

When a team sits back it suggests that they want to protect what they have (either a win or maybe even a draw). It means that they defend deeply and not really attack so much as the opposition try to break them down. We might also hear the phrase 'low block' to describe teams that sit back as their players are positioned closer to their own net than the opposition's. 

Sometimes the fans of a team that sits back become frustrated as they feel their team is not proactive enough and that the opposition attack more.

If a player is 'running the game' it means that they are the one in control and the one who makes things happen; the one with most influence in the game. Scotland could not get close to Tony Kroos and so he had time and space to control the rhythm of the game which allows his team to dominate possession and space.
