"The midfielder netted an absolute peach near the sidelines from about 30 yards out in Boca Juniors' surpassing of Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores last 16."

"Juan Roman Riquelme scored an absolute beauty to help Boca Juniors reach the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores at Corinthians' expense - but did he actually intend to score the cracking goal or was it intended to be a cross?"

"There's a banner in the away end here at the Emirates reading £62 pounds, where will it stop?

  1. an absolute peach = ?
  2. the cracking goal = ?
  3. away end = ?

Welcome to the forum Amadeu,

Nice questions and hopefully we can add these to our glossary in the near future.

a. A peach here means something brilliant, amazing or indeed, beautiful. So, the player scored a beautiful goal.
b. A cracking goal is something similar - a really very good goal; one which makes the crowd jump up in delight.
c. The away end is the area in the stadium (usually behind one of the goals) where the away team's supporters/fans stand or sit.

Example: The away end went crazy after the striker scored an absolute peach. This means that after the player scored an amazing goal the away fans celebrated.

Hope that helps

Damian

Here's an example from Arsenal.com:

Declan Rice capped a player of the match display with a cracking goal of his own in the second half.
