What is the meaning of "leave it" and "condemn" in this report?

MANCHESTER UNITED left it late once again as Cristiano Ronaldo netted in stoppage time to steal a point against Atalanta.

An early goal by Matt Godden condemned Hull City to a 1-0 defeat against Coventry City at the MKM Stadium.

If a team leaves it late it means they scored late and in this example, Ronalso scored a late equaliser to get a point for Manchester United.

If a team scores a goal that defeats another team we can sometimes hear the phrase 'condemn them to a defeat', the goal condemned them to defeat.
