What is the meaning of the phrases "look for goal" and "go for goal" in football?
88' | West Ham 1-0 Wolves
Neves looks for goal from range but his powerful effort is too close to Lukasz Fabianski who saves and holds.
West Ham 0-0 Wolves (55 mins)
First chance of the second half falls to Wolves, and it's a decent effort from Trincao. Hwang takes his time on the left, facing up to Craig Dawson, and opts to roll the ball to the edge of the area for Trincao, who puts whip on the strike which goes just over the top of the bar.Â
At the other end, Rice goes for goal from slightly further out than his effort in the first half, with the same technique, but this one misses the frame of the goal.Â

- In the first part, to 'look for goal' means to try and score or at least to try and hit the target - look for goal from range means Neves has shot from distance.
- In the second example, 'to go for goal' is similar in that the player has also attempted to shoot on goal, they have tried to hit the target/to score.
