What does "power" mean here? Does the commentator drope "after" in the sentence "power home a sublime volley"? So, it would be "power home after a sublime volley"? Also, what does "shrug off the attentions of" mean? 'But the Saints did equalise just before the break, Davis powering home a sublime volley after Pelle had shrugged off the attentions of Cahill.' Thanks in advance

power home is a verb and does need need after. To power home means to score with a powerful shot. In the sentence above it modifies the noun volley. It could be rephrased as scored with a great volley.

Shrug off means to escape a tackle, usually by physically pushing past the opponent. The attention of refers to the defenders pressure (or attention).
