Football Glossary: Attendance

Attendance

The number of people who watch a match; the number of fans who attend a game at the stadium. Example:

  • The world record for a football attendance was 200.000 who watched Brazil lose to Uruguay in the 1950 World Cup final in the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
  • The attendances at the 2012 Olympic football tournament were very good indeed. Attendances of over 80.000 supporters watched both the men’s and the women’s gold medal matches.
