Volley
(to) Volley: To strike the ball while it is in mid-air before it touches the ground. A volley is often a powerful strike; to volley the ball needs a lot of skill and good technique. A half volley is hit when the ball drops to the ground and is hit when it just touches the ground.
Example: Carlos Tevez’ volley against Manchester United kept West Ham in the top flight.
