Behind closed doors
Although not really a football phrase, the expression behind closed doors has been in the football news this week as Manchester City had to play their Champions League game against CSKA Moscow in an empty stadium (behind closed doors). The Russian side had been punished by UEFA due to their fans’ behaviour and had to play in front of empty stands – no supporters were allowed to enter the stadium.- Example: Manchester City played away in Moscow behind closed doors – in front of no fans at all!
