Close range
Sometimes a player will score from a long way out from goal but at other times the goals will come much nearer – maybe from within the six-yard box – and these types of goals are known as close-range goals. Certain types of players had a reputation for scoring a lot of close-range goals such as former England striker Gary Lineker – he was a fox in the box type player or a goal hanger. Close range.
- Example: The shot rebounded off the post and the striker followed up to score from close range.
- Example: She was allowed a simple tap in from close range to open the scoring.
