An eventful week, or rather Wednesday, in the Bundesliga. First came the sacking of Felix Magath, held accountable for Bayern’s failings. Note that he lead them to the League and Cup double on two occasions. Then Monchengladbach gave Jupp Heynicks his marching orders for failing to ease the club away from the relegation zone. Finally Thomas Doll was shown the door in Hamburg, though this is hardly a surprise if you look at the league table. Three sackings in one day!
Bremen – Schalke
Dortmund – Stuttgart

Bayern and Madrid both lose badly at the weekend, Champions League winners? Doubtful.

Thanks Damian. The three sackings on Wednesday have stunned the Bundesliga – it has never happened before. I have no idea why these three managers were only given two games after the winter break to prove themselves. At least there are some new job vacancies available!(Indeed, Magath has already turned down the Hamburg job.)
To be fair, Bayern’s recent form has been poor and Magath seemed to have lost the respect of senior players. Perhaps with Hitzfeld they now have a better chance of challenging Madrid in the Champions League. Madrid are not without their own squabbles so it is an interesting match-up. Bayern to get through, though I still have Bremen to win the Bundesliga title.
Great piece on the current situation in Germany. A couple of questions for you Hans, why wait until now to sack three managers when Bayern, Moenchengladbach and Hamburg had all of the winter break to do so?
Will Bayern beat Madrid in the Champions League now that Hitzfeld has returned and finally I still stand by my Bayern tip for the title thanks to Hitzfeld’s appointment!
