    FOOTBALL EXPRESSION

    This weeka€™s English for Football phrase is a call up which means to be asked to play for your country. This phrase is used with the verb to receive or get while it can also be used with the verb to be and the -ed form, to be called up. To receive a call up is often used in military terms and means that you have been asked to serve or represent your country in war, to fight for your country. In football, to receive a call up meas to be asked to play for your country in an international game. This week 33 yea old Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies received his first ever England call up and hopes to play against Montenegro next week and receive a first cap.
