Two weeks ago we looked ahead to the new Premier League season but we did not foresee the troubles that Manchester United and their new manager would be facing. You can listen to the report by clicking on the link above and can read the transcript of the report (below) where you will also find explanations of key vocabulary (in bold).United’s Woes
[soccer-info id=’2′ type=’results’ style=’blue_light’ team=’662||Manchester United’ /]Well, it has been a bad start to the season for Manchester United and their new manager Louis Van Gaal. After an opening day home defeat against Swansea City, the Red Devils only managed to pick up one point from their away trip to Sunderland last weekend which means this has been their worst start to a league season in 22 years. But worse was to come as United were dumped out of the League Cup in the 2nd round by lowly MK Dons – 4-0. True, Van Gaal rested many of his first-team players but the team he did put out should not have been so soundly thrashed by a side from the third tier of English football. United have already spent over A£120 million this summer – and more arrivals appear to be on their way – but the team still lacks balance.Of course, it’s early days in the Premier League – only two games have been played – while the League Cup is not high on anyone’s list of priorities so there is no need to panic just yet despite what many of the pundits may say.
