Here is some of the vocabulary we have used in this week’s show vocab_15.pdf

big spenders: a team that spends a lot of money
e.g. Big spenders were West Ham with six payers and Liverpool with four.

to smack of: sound like
e.g. Rafa Beniteza€™s comments about Everton smacked of sour grapes.

the top flight: the top league
e.g. Surely Reading are set for a very respectable finish in the top flight.

to participate in: to take part in, to
e.g. The Thai team participated in the Asean Cup.
dubious: doubtful
e.g. The referee awarded a dubious penalty against Thailand.
scrappy: untidy, not good to watch
e.g. The game was tense again, but also scrappy.
to hit form: start playing well, get a good run of results
e.g. Valencia are starting to hit form.
Pull out all the stops: to try really hard, to make a big effort
e.g. I think Australia are going to pull out all the stops in this game.
To detest: to really hate
Betis and Sevilla absolutely detest each other.
