e.g. Ronaldo received a standing ovation from the Blackburn fans

to get the sack a€“ to lose your job, be fired, be kicked out
e.g. Iain Dowie was the first Premier League manager to get the sack.

bounce back a€“ to come back quickly
e.g. Iain Dowiea€™s catchphrase was a€˜bouncebackabilitya€™.

on the road a€“ playing away from home (travelling)
e.g. Liverpool have not played well on the road this season.

trounced a€“ to beat a team easily.
e.g. Manchester United trounced Fulham 5-1 earlier this season.

swallow humble pie a€“ should admit that mistakes have been made
e.g. Benitez should swallow humble pie and drop Reina

should be a cracker a€“ the game will be very exciting (firework)
e.g. Manchester City and Fulham should be a cracker (possibly being ironic!)
