Goal difference is the number of goals a team has scored minus the number they have conceded and is often used to separate teams level on points.
What does it mean?
When teams finish level on points in a group or table, goal difference is usually the next factor used to rank them. It’s calculated as goals scored minus goals conceded. If goal difference is also level, goals scored (or ‘goals for’) is often the next tiebreaker.
