Didn’t Turn Up
The verbal phrase ‘to turn up‘ means to appear or to arrive at a place. If you arrange to meet someone, and they meet you at the place decided, they turn up. If they didn’t turn up, they didn’t arrive, and the person waiting is disappointed. In football if a team doesn’t turn up, it means that they didn’t perform as everyone was expecting, they disappoint the fans. Usually, in a big game, fans and pundits are expecting a good match. If one team doesn’t turn up, they don’t put in a good performance and the match is a disappointment. Does not turn up
- Example: Tottenham didn’t turn up in their match against Manchester United, losing 3-0 without troubling The Reds.
