Double the advantage
This phrase is generally used to describe the situation in a game when one team scores a second goal and the opposition have yet to score, i.e. 2-0. So, the team has gone from being one up to two up – they have doubled their advantage. Sometimes the word ‘lead‘ is used instead of ‘advantage‘ with the same meaning. To double the lead or double the advantage.
- Example: Ronaldo doubled Real Madrid’s advantage early in the second half with a well-taken goal.
- Example: The team doubled their lead when the winger made it 2-0 in the 90th minute
