Today’s World Cup phrase of the day is the expression to see off which in football means to defeat or beat an opponent. It is usually used when one team is expected to beat another team though may have some trouble in doing so. In today’s World Cup second round qualifying match between Uruguay and South Korea, the South American side saw off the Asians, while in the big game tomorrow, Argentina will hope to see off the Mexican challenge.
