Today’s Euro 2012 football word is ‘a showdown‘ which means a test or a confrontation – usually one that may have some controversy involved – between two teams. It is sometimes used to describe a final meeting between teams but this week it is already being used to talk about two huge games that are taking place in Euro 2012. Co-hosts Poland take on Russia while Holland play against Germany. The word showdown has been used to describe these games not just because of the rivalry involved between each of the sides but because Poland and Holland face elimination from the tournament if they lose. These are big showdown games indeed. A showdown.
