2014-15 Premier League
In our post from August, I noted that Manchester City would find it hard to retain their title as Chelsea had strengthened dramatically, while I also felt that Arsenal would challenge at the top. But I did not thinkA Liverpool would be involved in the title race – in fact, I thought that they would find it tough to even make the top four thanks to Manchester United having a new manager.
If they (Manchester United) sign one or two more big names before the transfer window closes then who knows, they may even challenge for the title.
OK, so I got that one wrong but, overall, not a bad prediction from the top of the table.
As for the relegation places, I tipped Burnley, West Brom and Leicester to go down. Instead, QPR, Hull City and Burnley dropped out of the top tier, so only one correct prediction out of three. However, surely no one could have foreseen Leicester’s amazing recovery which saw the Foxes move from bottom in March to finish 14th after 7 wins in their final 9 matches.
2014-15 La Liga
Surely anyone with an ounce of football knowledge would have been able to predict that a forward line containing Messi, Suarez and Neymar would win the Spanish title? Not me.
It will be hard for Atlético to repeat their exploits from last season, while I think Barcelona may have too many new players to bed in this year so I am going for Real Madrid for the title.
Whoops! How about the relegation battle? Well, I went for Eibar, Córdoba and Rayo Vallecano – so two out of three was not too bad – Rayo eventually finished in a comfortable 11th place with AlmerÃa dropping down to the Spanish second division.
Overall, not such a bad effort, maybe a 6 out of 10. I think I need to brush up on my football knowledge for next season’s predictions. How well or badly did your predictions go for this season? Let us know below.
