I'm wondering what "first-time means here? To smack means to kick the ball hard, doesn't it? Can I also say "to smack home"? Fuchs's corner from the right is cleared to the edge of the box and this time it's Drinkwater who smacks a first-time shot over.
First-time means to strike the ball without having to control it first. It is a very difficult skill and shows great technique. To shoot without controlling the ball is a first-time shot and this kind of shot is very effective as the defenders cannot prepare themselves. (See one-touch football)
Smack home is to score a goal by shooting the ball hard
